FIRE SAFE COUNCIL

Jacks Valley Alpine View Fire Safe Council is a chapter of the Nevada Fire Safe Council (NVFSC). As a member of the AVEPOA property owners association you are automatically enrolled in our chapter of the NVFSC. Yearly dues for AVEPOA members are $15.00 per household and are paid by the association at the time you join or renew your membership with AVEPOA. Both AVEPOA dues and NVFSC dues are for the calendar year (2009 dues are for January of 2009 through December of 2009). Jacks Valley Alpine View residents or owners who do not wish to join AVEPOA can join our NVFSC Chapter by filling out the NVFSC membership form. Please provide the information requested on the form and enclose your membership dues as specified on the form. Make checks payable to the Nevada Fire Safe Council. Enclose your check with the completed form and mail to Anne and Lee Elson, 3485 Zurich Ct., Carson City, NV 89705. You may download the PDF version of the Membership Application form here.

If you wish to join the the NVFSC direclty, please use the following link to download the most current membership form (with current dues). Note that we have a good deal through Andrew List who lets the association pay membership fees of $15 per household. http://nvfsc.org/nvfsc/

HELPFUL LINKS

There are resources available to help make your property safer both before and during a wild fire. The Living With Fire website has many useful suggestions for preparing your house and yard.  In addition,  the Center for Fire Research and Outreach  is a valuable resource. Of special interest are the appendices in the Homeowner's Wildfire Mitigation Guide. If you are contemplating remodeling your house (or are willing to do some retrofitting for fire safety) the Builder's Wildfire Mitigation Guide is very useful.

One of the newer products being offered is a foam protection system known as Thermo-gel. Ember entry into attics are a very common reason for loosing a house to wild fire. One product that helps prevent that is offered by Brandguard Vents.

What to do

WHAT TO DO IF FIRE IS COMING

If a wild fire threatens your home, an emergency checklist is an invaluable tool. Here is the latest version created by the UNR extension team. We recommend that you print the list, (2 pages, double sided) add to it, study it and save it in an easily accessible place.
