June 13, 2011
Dear Neighbor,
It is that time of year again. We are having our community picnic at the Elson’s
house, 3485 Zurich Ct., on Sunday, June 26th from 12 PM to 3 PM. All neighbors are welcome. We hope you will consider
coming. It is a great time for old neighbors to catch up with one another and for
new neighbors to meet them. We had a great turnout last year (and lots of really
good food). As we did then we will have a drawing at the picnic for a
comprehensive well testing kit to be used on a neighborhood well. All active
Alpine View Estates Property Owners (AVEPOA members) who attend the picnic
will be eligible to participate in the drawing. If you want to participate in this
drawing but have not yet joined the association this year please contact Jane
Johnson. Her phone number is 267-3427. The results of this well test will be
included in our report on the status of neighborhood wells at the annual meeting
in November.
Did you know that our neighborhood has CC&Rs? These were created when the
community was first subdivided and are still in effect today. We have placed a
copy of the CC&Rs at our web site, www.AVEPOA.com. Check them out when
you have a moment.
Did you know that Douglas County is in the progress of setting up a community
based emergency response organization called CERT. The purpose of this program is to train and equip
volunteers from the local community to respond to an emergency (e.g.
earthquake, fire, prolonged power outage, flood) when first responders (fire,
police) are unavailable and/or need additional support personnel. Having taken
the training class, we can say that it is very worthwhile and that Alpine View
would benefit greatly from having both a community wide plan and a small group
of volunteers trained in very basic triage, in search and rescue and in evacuation
skills. For example, did you know that there is a source of fire fighting water in
Alpine View that is independent of wells (and therefore electricity)? If there were
a power failure, do you know which of your neighbors will have functioning wells
for drinking water? CERT training is free but will require an investment in time. If
you are interested in more information, contact Lee Elson (lelson@charter.net,
267-9371) or come to the picnic and chat with Lee in person.
Sincerely,
Anne Elson
